Cellphones linked to tumors

I was reading in the paper over the weekend that mobile phones / cellphones have been found to cause cancerous cells:

Mobiles linked to tumoursLink

Long-term mobile phone users are more likely to develop a
particular type of brain tumour on the side of the head where they
hold their handsets, research suggests.

The study, to be published later this year in the International Journal of Cancer, found that those who regularly used mobiles for longer than 10 years were almost 40 per cent more likely to develop nervous system tumours, called gliomas, near where they hold their phones. Click here to read the rest of the article.

Some of you might say you had already suspected this might be the case, and whether you did or not, we all need to take a moment and pause for thought. Technology is being introduced at a rate of knots, it's a very exciting time to be alive, and with all new technological advances there may be negatives as well as positives. There hasn't been enough time for indepth studies to be done, and only after say 10 years of use, will more be known.

I'm not saying you should all stop using your cellphones, I'm just saying you should be aware of some of the possible effects, and act accordingly. Don't have your cellphone plastered to your head day in and day out, use it effectively without endangering yourself. I'm sure there are times you could use a landline but you pick up the cellphone instead, so now's your opportunity for change ... and save some your health and some money at the same time.

It's best to be armed with all the information you can find and be sure not to panic, read and become informed so you can make better decisions ... and remember - this works for everything in life :)

Let me know your thoughts,
Cheers

16 Questions for Website Owners

If you have a website, when was the last time you REALLY looked at it?

I'm going to ask you to try something - bear with me on this, as it's really important.

Pick a morning where you can put aside an hour or two and make an Appointment with yourself in your diary. It's best if you're fresh and alert, so first thing in the morning is a good idea.

Make a tea or coffee, feel relaxed, turn off the email announcement, turn off the cellphone, put your normal phone on voicemail, and commit yourself to looking - REALLY looking - at your website.

Pretend this is the first time you've visited the site, so let's do a search on the internet for your domain name or product, and when the results appear, pick any page which isn't the Home page.
What do you see?

  1. Can you tell immediately what this website is about?
  2. With a quick glance can you work out what product or service is available on this website?
  3. Without jumping to the Home page, do you think other website visitors might KNOW what the site is all about - if they landed on any one of the 'internal' web pages?
  4. If your answer is 'Yes!', that's fantastic! Give yourself a chocolate biscuit.
  5. If your answer is 'No.', then you've got work to do ... and fast!
  6. Start making notes about the page you're on ...

  7. Is it obvious what this site does or sells?
  8. Is it easy to see HOW to buy or find the product or service?
  9. Is there a 'call to action' asking you to buy, read, click or do something?
  10. Is the navigation easy to understand and follow?
  11. Is there an easy way to contact the website owner [or Support Team] - by phone or email - within one click?
  12. Is the information fresh and up-to-date, or has it been on the webpages for a couple of months or more?
  13. If there are photos or images, are they sharp and clear and relevant?
  14. Is the font size easy to read?
  15. Is the design pleasing, and not too cluttered?
  16. If this WASN'T your site, would you think it was great?

I want you to consider all these questions, and be honest with yourself. Could your site do with a bit of housekeeping? Just so you won't think that yours would be the only one that might need a bit of a tweak, I should let you know that most websites need a bit of tidying up quite regularly. The website owners who never bother to look at their websites with fresh eyes are really missing out.

If you've got lots of regular clients and visitors, you'll be amazed at the difference a change of photo or background colour can make.

It pleases the visitors - and most importantly - it lets them know YOU care about your own website enough to make it welcoming.

So go make that appointment now, and let me know how you go! I'd love to hear about the changes you put in place.

Cheers

smARTist Telesummit 18 Jan 2007

Have you wondered how to get people's attention about your products or services, but felt like you were hitting your head up against a brick wall?

Then it's time to think outside the box - take a break - walk along the beach - do something fun you don't normally do, and let your mind wander.

Do you know a handful of people [or more] you admire or respect, you think they do great stuff, and you think others might learn something from them?

Then why not do what Ariane Goodwin did - she pulled together a fantastic group of professionals and has created ...

the smARTist TeleSummit 2007
yes, this is the first year
an incredible collection of people with a ton of skills and knowledge.

Why is this so special? Well, Ariane's in the art business, so this focusses on art-related people, but it could work FOR YOU TOO.

If you contacted a handful of people like Ariane has, you too could come up with a great idea like this TeleSummit.

No travelling expenses, easy listening to conference calls [or the video after the event] - and the 'attendees' can be in their jammies :)

Whatever your field of expertise, check out what Ariane's doing ... and see if you might be able to do this too.

So - what have you got to lose?

That's right - nothing, except a few moments browsing ... off you go.

Cheers

What IS a Sub-Directory?

Happy New Year from Sydney, Australia! Yes we're ahead of the US & Canada, how cool is that?

I wish you all a fabulous, fun New Year filled with adventure, challenge, success and love!

Now - back to business :)

I'm halfway through several new f-r-e-e info ebooks and I thought I would share the titles with you, in case it's something you might find interesting:

What's a Sub-Directory?
What's Hosting?
What's a Control Panel and why should I care?
What's in a Name? [Blog & Domain]

As I finish each one, I'll announce it here, and in my Ezine [you can sign up for that on http://buildawebsitetonight.com/newsletter.html].

Wherever you are in the world, take a moment to reflect on the year that's been, and to dream about the year to come ... if you never make goals, call them 'wishes' instead ... write a page of all your biggest 'wishes' for 2007 [and beyond].

Look at that list every day, tape it to the wall, put it in front of your diary or appointment book, and believe it will happen, that it *is* happening [here and now], and before you know it, your dreams will start to come true. Things will shift within your mindset to enable these new dreams to be part of your life. [Thanks to my friend Helen for reminding me of this today - the best 'goal setter' I've ever met!]

Good luck!
Teena
