Where to announce your blog

Have you started blogging yet?

You really should - it will help your business tremendously, and you can read my recent post about that here.

Once you've got at least 10 posts on your blog, you might want to consider several things:

• some kind of sign-up to alert people when your blog's been updated
• announcing your blog in an effort to get more visitors.

So why would you do either of these things?

Well, if you provide a sign-up for visitors, and if they like what you say and how you say it, they will want to come back. The easier you make it, the better it is for both of you.

If you announce your blog in blog directories, you can get extra visitors who are interested in the topic of your blog.

Don't f0rget - the big reason why you do any of this online, is to bring people to your blog and your website [if you have one]. The more visitors you get, the more chance they'll buy your products and / or services. Isn't that your ultimate goal?

So the best way to do that is to take the two steps I've suggested above, and to make it easy for you, I'm going to include a few places here which provide those services.

How to make great passwords

Have you noticed lately that more places where you sign up online are giving stronger suggestions for passwords? This is a great thing, as way too many people create simple, easy-to-crack passwords.

My tip for a good password is:

• make it 8 characters or more
• ensure it has at least 2 numbers in it

For example, if you must use your pet's name, change some of the letters to numbers. If that's not possible, add two numbers, like this

• goldfish - you can change the 'o' to a zero, and add a number, like this:
• g0ldfish9

Other examples:

• fluffie - change the 'e' to a 3, and add a number = 3fluffi3
• giraffe can become gir2ff3
• get the picture?

This will deter password thieves for a lot longer, and it will make you feel safer too.

Why not print up a list of all your logins and passwords, and then go through and update them over the holiday break.

You do that on a regular basis ... right? :)

Don't get stressed over the holiday season

At this time of year everyone gets a little crazy - planning the holidays, Christmas shopping, gifts for old aunts and uncles, new babies in the extended family ... it can be a frenetic time, with lots of stress and sometimes even drama.

A client of mine BalancedElements.com has a site which provides services such as meditation, healing and counselling, all of which can be helpful in stressful times. The best bit is they actually teach techniques so their clients can learn to bring balance into their own lives, which is an excellent idea.

Remember to take the time to enjoy yourself over the holiday season - don't place too much burden on yourself to do everything - ask other family members and business associates for help. Reward yourself and join in the merriment, and above all, be safe, happy and healthy over the coming holiday season.

Add mini website snapshots to your site!

Snap.com is the coolest thing since Thumbshots.org!

Thumbshots.org allows you to view search results with mini thumbnails, like this:


Snap.com allows your site visitors to get mini pop-ups when they hover their mouse over a link on your webpage. Easy sign up [only took about 60 seconds] then copy and paste the code into the html of each webpage where you'd like to use it.

TIP : when you get the code for your site, you may want to disable the "include Snap search box", if you are using Google search on your page, and if your Google search is linked to your adsense revenue-sharing account. :o)
